Diagnose Your Skin Lesion or Mole

Do you have a skin lesion or mole that you’d like to make sure is harmless? If so, it’s a good idea to get a skin biopsy at ZENA Medical. With a skin biopsy, Dr. Zenovia Gabriel can rule out or diagnose certain skin conditions and diseases. A skin biopsy can give you some much-needed peace of mind and ensure your skin is in optimal health.

How Biopsies Work

A biopsy is a fairly simple procedure. Dr. Zenovia will begin by applying a bit of numbing medicine to the area of concern. Once you are completely numb, she will use a special tool called a dermablade to gently scrape off the first layer of cells.

This first layer of cells will then be closely examined under a microscope and our office will reach out to you as soon as we know the results. It’s important to note that this procedure does cause a small scar that will gradually fade.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Biopsy?

You may be a good candidate for a biopsy:

  • If you have a new skin growth or skin lesion.
  • If you have a skin rash.

How Long Does a Typical Biopsy Take?

A typical biopsy takes about 15 minutes to complete.

What Is The Recovery Process Like?

After your biopsy, Dr. Zenovia will encourage you to keep a bandage over the biopsy site until the next day. If you experience bleeding, be sure to apply directly to the wound for 10 to 20 minutes and call our office if it persists.

You’ll need to be extra careful so you don’t bump the biopsy site area or perform any activities that may stretch the skin. While healing may take several weeks, it’s usually completed within two months.
