How to Get Perfect Skin for Your Wedding Day

Skin Care

Your wedding day memories and photos will last a lifetime, so make sure you look dewy, smooth, and glowing! Whether you are the bride, mother of the bride, the groom, or even the maid of honor, the trick to getting perfect wedding day skin is to start early. Dr. Zena Gabriel will work with you to plan your path to amazing skin for the big wedding day.

When to Start Preparing for Your Wedding Day

To achieve your best results, schedule your consultation with Dr. Zena at least six months before your wedding day. She often sees people a few weeks or even days before the big day when it’s too late for lasers or any other treatment you’ve never had. You will never know how your skin may react to something new, and before your wedding day isn’t the time to find out.

How to Get Perfect Skin for Your Wedding Day

When you see Dr. Zena, she will assess your skin and customize a treatment plan based on your skin needs and concerns. She will recommend a series of treatments on this general timeline:

Six Months: Lasers and Microneedling

Many of the most powerful treatments take four to six months for maximum results to appear. At this stage, we can address textural issues, pigmentation problems, acne scars, and more. Dr. Zena may begin a collagen-stimulating treatment like the Fraxel laser or Genius RF or microneedling

Three Months: Dermal Fillers

If you plan to get dermal fillers, Dr. Zena recommends getting them eight to twelve weeks ahead. Dermal fillers can sometimes require fine-tuning to get ideal results, and three months gives you enough time to have minor adjustments. So if you’re looking for fuller, sexier lips, or higher cheekbones, consider doing this treatment early in your prep.

One Month: Botox®

At this stage, you may want to consider Botox® or related neuromodulators. Since these usually last a few months, one month gives your results time to settle and look natural but means they are still fully in effect for your wedding. If you’ve never tried Botox or other neuromodulators like Xeomin or Dysport, sometimes it’s best to give it a trial run 6 months before the big day. This will give you time to adjust and fine-tune your next treatment.

Two Weeks: HydraFacial®

Two weeks before your wedding is the perfect time to start HydraFacial®. This gentle treatment uses a vortex that extracts oils and debris from your skin while infusing hydration and other potent actives. As a result, your skin looks dewy and radiant.

One Week: Spectra™ Laser

Dr. Zena recommends skin toning with Spectra™ laser peel for brighter and smoother skin. This treatment uses mild heat to gently stimulate collagen and also strip off any dead layer of old cells that heap up and make us look dull. The Spectra Hollywood peel is a must-have before any special occasion and it has zero downtime. When the skin is fresh without the dead layer resting on top, your makeup is smoother (without cracks) and your skin reflects light better…overall more radiant. You can have Spectra™ once a week starting up to six weeks before your wedding, depending on your needs.

How Should I Take Care of My Skin Before My Wedding Day?

An effective skincare routine can protect your skin and enhance the results of your treatments. Obviously, if you have an active skin condition like acne or rosacea, seeking treatment well in advance is imperative. Dr. Zena recommends beginning your routine with what she calls foundational skincare. The three key ingredients of foundational skin care are:

  • An antioxidant, such as vitamin C, in the morning
  • A glycolic acid at night
  • Tolerable retinol at night

During the day, an antioxidant protects your skin by absorbing environmental damage. At night, retinol and glycolic acid work to repair the damage. Don’t play around with new topicals too close to your big day. Try things early and figure out what your skin likes.

Dr. Zena recommends to all soon-to-be brides that they start drinking lots of water at least a week before the wedding. Hydrated skin looks visibly plumper and healthier. Another important factor is getting enough sleep. While pre-wedding nerves might have you struggling to get any rest, lack of sleep can leave skin looking less than vibrant. Try melatonin or ask your doctor about other options.
