Dermatologist in Newport Beach, CA: Board-Certified Care at Fashion Island
ZENA Medical is a board-certified dermatology practice at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California, founded by Dr. Zenovia Gabriel, MD, FAAD. We diagnose and treat medical skin conditions, screen for and surgically remove skin cancer, care for children, and offer physician-planned aesthetic treatments, all under one roof and from the same team. New patients are typically seen within two weeks. Call 949-200-8222 or request an appointment online.
Most people find a dermatologist the hard way: a spot that changed, acne that outlasted every cream, a rash nobody could name. Once you arrive, we would like the rest to be easy. You will see a dermatologist, not a delegate. You will leave with a diagnosis, a plan and pricing.
You see a dermatologist. Your diagnosis and treatment plan come from a board-certified dermatologist, not from delegated care. It matters more than most people expect, particularly for pigmented lesions, for acne that has not responded to treatment, and for other complicated skin disorders.
Medical and cosmetic in one practice. You do not need one clinic for a mole check and another for your skin quality. Whether your visit is medical or aesthetic, we look at the full picture. Your aesthetic plan takes your medical history and skin health into account, while medical care considers your cosmetic goals too.
A practice known for difficult acne. Dr. Gabriel has specialized in low-dose isotretinoin (Accutane) protocols for more than fifteen years and has treated thousands of patients with them. People travel to us, and see us by telehealth, for acne that has not responded to anything else.
A practice known for complex skin conditions and advanced treatments. From persistent rashes, pigmentation and inflammatory skin conditions to lasers, injectables and regenerative treatments, our team approaches each case with a dermatologist’s eye. We look at what is happening medically, aesthetically and structurally before recommending a plan.
Fashion Island, with parking. Central to Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, Irvine and Costa Mesa, and an easy drive from anywhere in Orange County.
If something on your skin is bothering you and you do not know what it is, this is the appointment to book. We treat acne and acne scarring, rosacea, eczema and dermatitis, psoriasis, hair loss, nail disorders, warts, molluscum and cutaneous infections, hyperpigmentation and melasma, moles, cysts and benign growths, and the rashes and undiagnosed complaints that have already been through two pharmacies and a search engine. Full-body skin examinations, dermoscopy, biopsies, excisions and Mohs micrographic surgery. If you have a spot that has changed, bled, itched, or simply does not resemble your others, come in. A screening takes about fifteen minutes and it is the single most valuable appointment in dermatology. You do not need a referral, and you do not need to be certain it is something. That is our job.
We see children of all ages for eczema, birthmarks and vascular lesions, warts and molluscum, pediatric acne, and rashes that have not resolved. Parents across Orange County are referred to us for the conditions that call for a dermatologist rather than a pediatrician, and for the adolescent acne that deserves definitive treatment before it scars.
Every aesthetic treatment here is planned by a dermatologist, which matters most when you are treating scarring or working with skin that pigments easily. Genius RF and classic microneedling, XERF skin tightening, Fraxel and CO2 resurfacing, Vbeam for redness and vascular lesions, injectables and biostimulators, chemical peels and HydraFacial, laser hair and tattoo removal, and medical-grade skincare. Dr. Zenovia Gabriel, MD, FAAD founded ZENA Medical at Fashion Island and practices the full range of medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. She has specialized in microdose isotretinoin (Accutane) protocols for more than fifteen years, and her work in acne treatment is referenced nationally. Most of her patients simply call her Dr. Zena.
She is joined by Dr. Christina Ring and Dr. David Sawcer, both board-certified dermatologists, and by a physician-supervised team of physician assistants, nurse practitioners, laser nurses and licensed aestheticians, all trained in-house on our protocols and devices. Every provider follows the same approach: an educated, evidence-based assessment of your skin first, followed by candid advice about what will and will not work. Meet the team →
We believe everyone deserves to feel comfortable, cared for, and understood, especially in a paper gown. From the moment you walk through our doors, we look after you with warmth, discretion, and thoughtful attention, making sure you feel heard, supported, and confident in your care every step of the way.
A first visit usually runs twenty to thirty minutes. Bring a list of everything you currently apply to your skin, prescription and over-the-counter alike, and a note of what you have already tried. If you are coming for a skin check, please arrive without makeup and with nail polish removed; we need to examine the nail beds as well.
We examine the area of concern, explain what we are seeing in plain language, and give you a plan with costs before you commit to anything.
How soon can you be seen? New-patient appointments are typically available within two weeks, considerably sooner than the wait at most dermatology practices. If you have a lesion you are worried about, say so when you call and we will move you up.
For medical dermatology, select providers on our team are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross PPO, Blue Shield PPO, United Healthcare PPO and Medicare. Dr. Zena Gabriel sees patients on a self-pay basis and provides a superbill you can submit to your PPO plan for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Many patients choose this approach for the time, attention, and comprehensive care she offers, valuing a thoughtful evaluation, a personalized treatment plan, and the opportunity to feel fully heard. Reimbursement depends on your plan’s benefits.
Plans vary, so call us with yours and we will confirm coverage before you book.
Cosmetic treatments are not covered by insurance and are paid at the time of service. We accept all major cards. Unsure whether what you need is medical or cosmetic? Call. We will tell you before you book.
