What are the Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Eczema Newport Beach

Getting older is not always pleasant, particularly with the toll it can take on our skin. None of us want to look haggard, overtired, or older. When your reflection stresses you more than it should, ZENA Medical can help with ablative and nonablative laser skin resurfacing options. Who doesn’t want to look years younger than their age?

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

First, what’s the difference between ablative and non-ablative laser treatments? Ablative resurfacing, like with CO2 and Erbium lasers, more aggressively treats signs of aging, like significant wrinkles, acne scarring, and severe photo aging. It’s an advanced laser treatment perfect for patients who are generally 60 years old or older. There is some intentional skin burning involved to achieve more dramatic results, where the skin’s cells are replaced. You essentially get a whole new face!

Non-ablative, fraxel, and other fractionated lasers only heat the skin, not going quite as far as burning the skin to achieve renewal. They’re milder treatments, which will take 2-3 sessions to achieve the level of results that are equally possible after one ablative treatment. Fraxel treatments can remove between 50%-75% of brown spots and photodamage, but wrinkles take longer to show visible improvement because the remodeling isn’t as aggressive.

A complete renewal of your skin’s condition is possible with ECO2 – Skin Resurfacing. Using multiple ablative laser beams, ECO2 penetrates the skin to erase signs of aging and promote deep collagen remodeling. Ablative skin resurfacing creates tiny micro-injuries spaced a precise width apart. The skin between these micro-channels act as bridges of healing, which can rejuvenate the skin, shrink pores, improve your skin’s tone and texture, and diminish lines, deep wrinkles, and scarring. The deep laser energy rejuvenates collagen and elastin and boosts their production, which firms your skin and gives you a supple, youthful glow. ECO2 – Skin Resurfacing undoes decades of sun damage, pigmentation issues, and deep wrinkles.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Ablative laser skin resurfacing may be ideal for you if you have concerns about fine lines, deep wrinkles, acne scarring or age spots, skin laxity, dull complexion, or texture issues. Deep ablative laser skin resurfacing treatments are great for patients aged 60+ who want to turn back the clock. Patients as young as 25 may get laser skin resurfacing as a preventive measure for wrinkles under the eyelids or improve any textural or photodamage concerns. There is a risk of hyperpigmentation, something patients with darker skin tones or those diagnosed with melasma may need to avoid.

Dr. Zenovia or your ZENA Medical provider can give you a comprehensive evaluation to get started.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment Like?

Your laser skin resurfacing treatment begins with an application of topical numbing cream so you’re as comfortable as can be. Then, ablative or non-ablative laser energy is systemically delivered to your skin with settings customized to your specific needs. After about 1 hour, your treatment is complete. If you go aggressive with your treatment, you’ll experience some swelling and redness for up to 7 days, but you can apply makeup within 5-7 days. Patients who choose milder treatments may experience 3-5 days of downtime. For most patients, healing takes place over 1-3 weeks. Ablative laser skin resurfacing is one of the most effective treatments we offer for skin rejuvenation at ZENA Medical, and a single treatment is typically all most of our patients need. Preventing infection with carefully chosen aftercare products can keep recovery smooth.

What Results Can I Expect?

What can laser skin resurfacing truly do for you? In about 1 week following your treatment, you’ll notice improved texture and tone, smaller pores, your lines and wrinkles are less prominent, acne scars are less noticeable, and your skin will be tighter. The firmness of your skin continues to improve over the following weeks as collagen and elastin production really kicks into gear. Specifically, ablative skin resurfacing with ECO2 can do more for your skin in a single hour treatment than many other skin rejuvenating procedures can with multiple appointments and months of treatment.

3 Benefits of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Skin Resurfacing treats a large number of skin problems. Let’s face it, today’s skincare routines are insane, and can be insanely expensive. Laser Skin Resurfacing targets all the major skin imperfections, including scars that linger for years. Not many over-the-counter products can begin to compete.

Skin Resurfacing fights aging at the source. Your collagen weakens over time, is slower to replenish, and slower to repair. With ablative ECO2 resurfacing, you can restore your collagen to the quality and quantity of a younger age. Prevent those lines and wrinkles from forming in the first place rather than playing catch up after they start.

Skin Resurfacing is outpatient and often one treatment will do wonders. Some deeper chemical peels require sedation and general anesthesia to remodel those deeper tissues for tighter, firmer skin. Not so with Laser Skin Resurfacing. Have your skin resurfaced in the comfort and privacy of the ZENA Medical offices in a day.

Microneedling is one of the most effective treatments for skin texture issues. If you’re concerned about the texture of your skin—acne scars, enlarged pores, tissue irregularities, and more—microneedling may be right for you. At Zena Medical, we offer microneedling with combination treatments to give you the best results possible.

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling improves your skin by accomplishing two things. First, the needles create controlled trauma in the form of microchannels to stimulate your skin’s healing response and collagen production. Second, the channels create a conduit for highly potent beneficial active ingredients, such as vitamin C, retinol, hyaluronic acid, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

As your skin heals, new collagen is produced to firm up your skin. New skin cells replace those damaged or scarred by sun exposure, acne, or the march of time. Patients with significant acne scars benefit more from a series of deeper microneedling treatments, which require higher licensing to perform.

Microneedling depths

Microneedling is popular with aestheticians, nurses, and physicians alike. However, the deeper the microneedling needles penetrate your skin, the more effective your treatment is. While aestheticians can perform microneedling, nurse practitioners and physicians’ licenses allow them to microneedle deeper than aestheticians. This is important to note because the deeper the channels run, the better your end results will be. This also explains why there is a cost difference between microneedling with a medical provider versus an aesthetician.

Benefits of Microneedling

Pores shrink, acne scars diminish, and your skin’s texture improves. This is likely the biggest benefit of microneedling. Your skin looks and feels younger because it is younger. Those damaged or scarred cells that roughened your skin and made it dull are replaced with new cells, and under the surface, new collagen is growing. Collagen is the skin’s most important protein, providing structure and stability and keeping skin tight and fresh.

Creams and serums go deeper than ever before. The microchannels that microneedling cause can allow your topical serums and moisturizers to penetrate deeper into your skin. This allows your products to be more effective and will improve skin health and appearance.
