How to Fix Droopy Eyelids

Newport Beach Eyelid Lift

The toll age takes on the eyes doesn’t have to be significant to be noticeable. The skin around the eyes is so delicate. Even a little laxity can make us look unhappy or tired or even when we feel rested. Dr. Zenovia Gabriel at ZENA Medical often recommends skin tightening procedures to brighten and refresh the eyes.

How Does Eyelid Treatment Work?

At ZENA Medical, we have two methods of skin tightening treatment to refresh tired, droopy eyelids.

The precision of Thermage® allows your ZENA Medical specialist to tighten the delicate skin around the eyes without damage to surrounding tissues. Radiofrequency (RF) energy is delivered into the dermal layer to stimulate collagen production, which supports skin and gives it the firmness we all associate with youth and beauty.

Eyelid Lift

An eyelid lift, also called blepharoplasty, is another treatment that can refresh your eyes. It does so by repositioning delicate tissues and removing excess skin around the eyes. This smooths away under-eye puffiness, lifts away skin that creates hooding on the upper lid, and refreshes the overall appearance and shape of your eyes. An eyelid lift can achieve dramatic improvements even with the subtlest of changes.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Rejuvenation?

The best candidates for Thermage® are patients between 30 and 50 years old who have lax skin around the eyes contributing to puffiness or drooping.

If you’re in good health and feel your appearance reflects a worn-down look that doesn’t match how young you feel, an eyelid lift may be for you. A consultation at ZENA Medical is a great place to start.

What is Eyelid Rejuvenation Like?

Your Thermage® treatment may take up to 90 minutes to complete, during which time your ZENA Medical specialist will move the laser methodically over your skin to direct the RF energy.

If you’re having an eyelid lift, your treatment is performed in our offices and takes under 2 hours to complete. Dr. Karen Leong will administer local anesthesia and ensure that you’re comfortable. Then, with meticulous techniques, Dr. Leong removes excess skin and trims away fatty tissues that contribute to puffiness, hooding, or under-eye bags. You’ll be able to recover comfortably at home.

Is There Any Downtime with Eyelid Rejuvenation?

With Thermage®, you may experience mild side effects, such as redness or swelling, but these will not impede your regular schedule.

With an eyelid lift, you can expect swelling and bruising to develop and last several days. Most patients return to work within 1 week of their procedure. You may return to full activities, including strenuous exercise, around 4 weeks.

What Results Can I Expect?

The results from an eyelid lift are immediate, and after the swelling subsides the first few days, your eyes appear brighter, with a more alert, youthful look. Under-eye bags are smoothed away, and dark circles will be a thing of the past once the bruising fades.

Thermage® treatments take a little more time to show visible improvements. In 2-4 weeks, you’ll notice tighter skin, fewer wrinkles, and your eyes appear more open than before. These improvements will continue to accumulate for up to 6 months as collagen fibers grow and firm your skin. Eye treatments such as these at ZENA Medical can take years off your appearance with just a few hours of treatment.
