What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical-Peel-Newport-Beach

You have many options to brighten and rejuvenate your skin. All have advantages and disadvantages. A chemical peel is highly customizable, works for all skin types, and can target your skin concerns. Your dermatologist at ZENA Medical will choose between different types of chemical peels to help you achieve the results you want.

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses a solution applied to the face (or sometimes other parts of the body) to remove layers of skin. The strength of the peel will determine how many layers of the skin it will remove. The new skin stimulated by the peel will look smoother and more even. Chemical peels typically use acids such as alpha-hydroxy, glycolic, or trichloroacetic acid. Your ZENA Medical dermatologist will determine the ideal peel strength for your needs.

Types of Chemical Peels

Your dermatologist can customize your chemical peel to match your skin concerns and lifestyle. While some people may benefit from a gentle peel every few months, others may prefer to accept some downtime for more intensive, longer-lasting results. At ZENA Medical, we offer a range of medical-grade peels to help achieve your goals.

Superficial Peel

A mild or superficial peel removes the dead outer layers of skin to help your face look brighter, clearer, and more refreshed. It works well for problems related to skin tone, acne, and rough, uneven skin. These peels work gently enough that almost anyone can have one. You will have little to no downtime.

Medium Peel

A medium peel uses stronger acids to remove more layers of skin. This helps it improve acne scarring, wrinkles, and deeper uneven skin tone or sun damage. A medium peel may be a good choice if a superficial peel is not strong enough to address your needs. These peels may involve some redness and minor peeling for a few days.

Deep Peel

This intensive peel works deeper into the skin to remove more layers. It can remove lines and wrinkles, scarring, and uneven pigmentation. It also generates skin regrowth and renewal for skin that looks smoother, more even, and younger. These peels require more intensive recovery.

How Much is a Chemical Peel?

Because each chemical peel is customized for you, prices will vary. A superficial peel may cost as little as $100, while a deep peel that requires anesthesia can cost up to $6000. Schedule a consultation with Dr. Zena Gabriel to get an accurate estimate.

How Often Should I Get a Chemical Peel?

Dr. Zena recommends a light peel every two to five weeks to maintain clear, smooth skin. You can repeat a medium peel every three to nine months. You will only need a deep peel once. We will develop a chemical peel plan customized for you and recommend a treatment schedule
